A Gaming Table For Your Lap

I recently bought a Lap Desk from a nearby Barnes and Noble, and just yesterday I’ve finally put it to good use. And I must say, it’s quite handy when there isn’t enough table space. Optimally, you’d use one of these things if you’re sitting on the floor or on a couch, as you’d still want your DM to still see your rolls.

As you can see in this photo, I’ve not only stuck my pencil in the provided pencil slots, but I’ve used one of them for my dice. In the center, where the handle is, I’ve placed my 12-sided body-part die. It’s a bit large for the pencil slots, but not too large or too small for the handle, so it works well there. :) And there’s a handy clip on the left side of the Lap Desk which is great to keep your character sheets from sliding around too much.

Lap Desk In Action

And here’s a photo of the Lap Desk in full use, at least as a player. As you can see, I have my character sheets clipped to the Lap Desk, with a d20 and a couple d8 having been just rolled.

This particular model I believe is the Jumbo Lap Desk, which cost me about $15. Now, not having actually seen any of the other models that are apparently available, I don’t know how jumbo this thing really is. But it does provide a good amount of room to work with as long as you’re playing a PC. If you’re DMing, you’ll still want to have an actual table to work with, but the Lap Desk can be handy for other things, such as plunking down a laptop that you’re using, but don’t have enough room on the table for it.

If you want more information on the Lap Desk, you can go check out Creative Essentials’ website. You can see what other models they have available, and where you can buy them. So far, I’ve only seen these in Barnes & Noble, but they’re apparently available at Borders, Stables, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Office Max as well. So if you need a bit more surface area to work with as you’re gaming, you might want to check these things out! :)

If you like this post, buy me an ale!

I need a lap desk! I’ve been using an extra chair for all these years.
