First off, I do have a name: Donat Fevre. And yes, I’m a nerd, and I love D&D. I’ve been playing since high school, having started on AD&D 2nd Edition. Now, in these days of D&D 3.5, I’ve been playing with a group of around 7, and currently running two campaigns myself. There are also two other DMs in my group, each also running campaigns of their own, or even taking over as DM in our main campaign. We’re doing a lot, yes, but it’s fun!
Where I Live
I grew up, went to school, and attended college in New Hampshire. During my first year in college, I met someone while playing Utopia, and we ended up falling in love with each other. Of course, long distance relationships can only go so far, especially with how heart-wrenching they can be at times. So I simply threw logic out the window, followed my heart, and moved to the San Fernando Valley in California. It’s been two years so far, and it’s been good.
Dreams and Education
I graduated with an Associates in Computer Information Systems at New Hampshire Technical Institute, though I originally went there as a Computer Engineering Technologies student. Despite the change, I’ve learned some very valuable lessons concerning programming, database design, and even a bit of Linux that I’ve been keeping around with me. I went along this route thinking that it would help me realize my dream of creating my own video game company, and publishing my own games. I’m sure I’m not the only one.
Why I’m Doing This
I think somewhere along the line, I lost track of my dreams, and just ended up working solely to earn an income. I’ll be honest, it’s not fun working just to earn some cash, and not have any time to enjoy anything that the cash could get you. So after some soul-searching and a bit of personal development (a huge thanks to Steve Pavlina for writing the articles that are helping me down this path!), I thought that I’d try to go back to writing, which was once one of my favorite hobbies. However, I didn’t want to just write about any random thing, I wanted to focus on something, and thus create value for a given niche.
I looked within myself, looked at the many things I liked, and also did some research on already existing blogs of the stuff I liked. That’s how I came to decide that D&D will be the focus of my attention on this blog. True, there’s some others out there, but they seem rather lack-luster. Though, this doesn’t count anything that Wizards of the Coast does, as I was looking purely for blogs that were done by individuals, rather than by people being paid by a corporation to write. To be honest, the best one I could find seemed to only review D&D products and talk about events. And there were only a couple products reviewed on that one site.
I honestly would like to see a blog that would offer some insights on how to make D&D a better experience, one that would be updated on a regular experience. Since I couldn’t find anything like that, I figured I’d do that myself. Though I have to admit, I think I’ve been taking a personal development spin on D&D. It’s probably from reading too much of Steve Pavlina’s articles.
Stuff Other than D&D
I do like many other things aside from D&D. In fact, I love PC games. I usually play through the whole range of genres, from first-person shooters, role-playing, real-time and turn-based strategy, and even sims. Though, to be honest, I think I like role-playing games the best, as it gets my imagination to really work. Making mods for RPGs is quite a lot of fun too! Other games I like to mod are FPS and RTS games, though I may experiment with games in other genres as well. Unfortunately, I’ve never really completed much of anything that’s stellar, just minor little things so far.
I’ve also have had a love of writing, especially back during my high school days and early on in college. I haven’t been so active in writing recently, though I am trying to remedy that through this blog. However, I have written quite a bit, and have posted most of it on my personal website that I’ve put up ever since I first learned of free web hosts. However, I fell out of the practice of updating it, though I guess I lost some interest in it as well.
