You could just put 'Evil' as your character's alignment.

I know that 4th Edition doesn't mention much about roleplaying evil characters with its trimmed down alignment system. It doesn't mean you can't play them at all though!

I recommend taking a look at the classic alignment system that was being used up to D&D 3.5. If you don't have any pre-4th Edition books, you can still look at the online d20 SRD (which is pretty much the core books from 3.5): http://www.d20srd.org/srd/description.htm

I'd say in the end, it just comes down to having a great imagination and being able to improvise well. The role of the DM/GM is to facilitate great stories. Don't force them through a story that's purely of your creation, let them have some freedom. You'll find that some of the best moments you can have in any D&D campaign is from your players doing something you never expected and needing to improvise quickly.

One site I can recommend you to, though, is Dungeon Mastering. Not only is there a blog there for you to read more about the DM/GM role, there's also tools available for you to use as well.

This is more of a request than a comment. I want to get into D&D, but before I start coercing friends, I want to know everything. Though I would prefer to start out as a PC, to get people together I need to know the DM role. What do I need to learn the gospel? Where do I go?
As with anything, I'm sure experience is best, but one quality I have is I read/learn game manuals like it gets my dick sucked. I'm tired of the internet, I'm tired of video games, I'm tired of set story lines. I think this game is for me, but I need help jumping in.

Well, if you look at the bottom of Part 2, which is linked to at the end of this article, you'll find links to what is essentially a free version of the D&D 3.5 manuals.

Though I did link to the character sheets on Wizard's site, it turns out that they've changed the page to only show 4th Edition character sheets. However, I've gone ahead and updated that link with a download of the 3.5 character sheet. Sorry if there was any kind of confusion.

However, even though I wrote this series of articles with 3.5 Edition in mind, this can probably still work with 4th Edition, which was just released.

Unfortunately, I don't think the 4th Edition SRD has been released to the general public quite yet. I can't recall when that will happen off the top of my head, but there will be one released in the near future, just as what was done for 3.0 and 3.5. :)
