Challenges of Running a Startup Blog - Keeping up with Posts

Currently, I would say that this is my biggest challenge at the moment. Trying to think of things to write about, and then actually writing and posting them, on a regular basis is not as easy for some as it may be for others. One of the things that really makes this a challenge for me is that I’m a huge procrastinator. Far too many times have I thought about doing something, but end up putting it off until the last minute. Or sometimes, I just never do it at all.

One way that I’ve found that can work would be to hand someone a good whip, and tell them to whack you with it every time you slack off.  In my case, the one holding the proverbial whip is my girlfriend. And if I don’t keep up with the posting, I know that the nagging will never cease, as well as any kind of torture she deems fit. So, if you find that you’re having trouble keeping on task with something, try having someone get after you about it. Or even better, get a whole lot of people getting after you!

Now, what about coming up with ideas of stuff to write about? That can be quite challenging itself as well. However, I do seem to have a habit of coming up with ideas in the oddest of places, particularly the bathroom (I don’t know why, it just happens!). However, sometimes that isn’t enough. Fortunately, there may be a way to help to come up with plenty of ideas of what to write about in this blog. Brad Isaac at Achieve-IT! has recently posted an entry titled Tapping Your Superconscious: Power Idea Generations, where he described a method of training your mind to randomly pop up with ideas to whatever particular problem you may have. Definitely worth a read, and I may try using this method when I start running out of ideas.

Another thing I’ve found that can help is doing a bit of personal development. One site that’s definitely worth looking at for that purpose is Steve Pavlina.com. He has several blog posts and outright articles that cover a wide range of personal development articles. Some articles discuss getting over procrastination, and yet others that discuss tapping into your subconscious mind to come up with great ideas and insights.

So what do you do to beat writer’s block? And what to you try to get over procrastination and get things done? Leave a comment with your thoughts! :)

I think I’ve gotten better. I’m managing to keep up with 3 posts per week nowadays. Optimally, though, I’m going to want to eventually move up to at least a post a day, if not more. I’m sure I’ll reach that point someday though. :)
