Don’t Forget About Your Other Life!

While we may enjoy playing a myriad of characters on various worlds when playing D&D, we all need to remember that there’s a certain other life that we cannot afford to neglect.

Yup, I’m talking about our real lives. Besides, without it we wouldn’t be able to play all these other lives! :)

I write about this in light of a recent post on Cnet News about a certain couple in Reno. While gaming can be fun and all, regardless if you’re playing video games or tabletop games, you really can’t ignore your real life for too long. Otherwise, bad things can happen. Such as the poor kids that were neglected by their irresponsible parents.

So please, game responsibly. Make sure you take care of your own health, as well as the health of those in your family (like your kids!). And if you’ve seen this video on the lack of tabletop gamers, then you know that this world needs more gamers like us. So if you have them, bring your kids into the fold! It’s never too early to introduce the young into the wonderful world of roleplaying! :D

You’ve already heard my two cents on this so-called “video game addiction” versus a general diagnosis of addictive personality disorder…but that was just sick. Somebody needs to SMITE EVIL. I hope they die in a fire.
Luckily, it’s the bloggers who are showing the least sympathy, and they’re probably the people spending the most time on the net.

Ah, corrupt ‘em while they’re young! However, I remember being taught AD&D 2.0 at the age of 6ish and being pretty confused. My sisters, ages 9 and 11, fared better.

Yeah, AD&D 2nd Edition did seem rather complicated. I’m sure that it would be hard to grasp all the rules when you’re really young.

However, with 3.0 and 3.5, the rules make a bit more sense. Higher AC is actually a good thing this time, and the saves make a bit more sense as well. I imagine it would be easier for someone even as young as 6 being able to better grasp the rules for 3.0 and 3.5 than those of 2nd Ed.
