I'm sure that it would be hard to grasp all the rules when you're <i>really</i> young. However, with 3.0 and 3.5, the rules make a bit more sense. Higher AC is actually a good thing this time, and the saves make a bit more sense as well. I imagine it would be easier for someone even as young as 6 being able to better grasp the rules for 3.0 and 3.5 than those of 2nd Ed. Yeah, AD&D 2nd Edition did seem rather complicated. Somebody needs to SMITE EVIL. <strike>I hope they die in a fire.</strike> Luckily, it's the bloggers who are showing the least sympathy, and they're probably the people spending the most time on the net.
