I didn’t realize until today that the subscribe to comments option was broken. I don’t know if it may have interfered with anyone’s email subscription to comments on various posts, but in case it had, I’m very sorry for not realizing this sooner.

This happened during an update I made to Wordpress a while back, when it was found out that some cracker got into the release code and modified it to provide a back door into every blog that ran that code. Wordpress recommended cleaning out all the core files and reinstalling from fresh, just to stay on the safe side. However, one of the code files for the Subscribe to Comments plugin resided in the root directory for Wordpress, and was inadvertently deleted during the update.

Thankfully, there’s a new version of Subscribe to Comments that does not require any files being placed into the root Wordpress installation. Thus, any further Wordpress updates should not mess up any more subscriptions.
